All smoke detectors have two parts a sensor and a loud horn to wake people up! There are two main types of smoke detctors,ionization detectors and photoelectic detectors.Sometimes plus a heat detector to warn of a fire.

I was thinking about the ionisation and the photoelectric detectors.
I have heard that the photoelectric ones are better, or at least have better technology.
ionisation detectors respond more quickly to flaming fires with smaller combusion particles.photoelectric detectors respond more quickly to smoldering fires.Both of them are really good though ionisation detectors cost less than photoelectric detectors.
